Dr. Kary completed an internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center and spent six years in the Army Dental Corps. He was the primary wisdom tooth provider at Okubo Dental Clinic and served as surgical extraction and bone grafting preceptor for other Army general dentists.

Do you remove wisdom teeth?

Yes, including complete bony impactions. Dr. Kary completed an oral surgery internship at Madigan Army Medical Center and was designated an Advanced Clinical Practice General Dentist (63A9F) by the Army. Sedation is available for all surgical procedures.

Wisdom teeth removal, surgical extractions, bone grafting (socket preservation, ridge augmentation, sinus lifts), soft tissue grafting, frenectomy (laser, labial, and lingual), management of oral infections, minor trauma, and oral pathology procedures.

We handle most care in-house, including surgery, implants, root canals, and sedation. When a case requires expertise beyond our scope, we refer to and help coordinate with a trusted specialist. Getting you the best care matters more to us than trying to do everything ourselves.

When they are impacted, causing pain or infection, damaging neighboring teeth, or trapping food in a way that cannot be cleaned. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. If yours are fully erupted, functional, and cleanable, Dr. Kary will tell you to leave them alone.

Expect some swelling and soreness for a few days, managed with ice and the medication you are sent home with. Most patients return to normal activity within a day or two; surgical extractions and impactions take longer. You are given written instructions and a number to call if something does not seem right.

That is your choice, and it is discussed before scheduling rather than on the day. Options run from local anesthetic alone through nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist in our office. You do not need to go to a hospital or surgical center.

Bone begins to shrink as soon as a tooth is removed, and most of that loss happens in the first several months. Socket preservation places graft material at the time of extraction to hold the ridge shape. It keeps an implant possible later and avoids a larger grafting procedure to rebuild what was lost.

The upper back teeth sit close to the sinus cavity, and after tooth loss there is often not enough vertical bone for an implant. A sinus lift raises the sinus membrane and places graft material beneath it to create that height. It is planned from your cone-beam CT scan and performed in this office.

A frenum is the band of tissue connecting the lip or tongue to the gum. When it is too tight or attached too low, it can restrict tongue movement, pull on the gums, or interfere with speech or feeding. Release is done with a dental laser, which means minimal bleeding, less swelling, and typically no sutures.

Persistent throbbing pain, swelling in the gum, face, or jaw, a bad taste, sensitivity to pressure, or fever. Infections do not resolve on their own and can spread. Call the office at (301) 301-3148 rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
