Do you offer same-day crowns?

Yes. Using a Medit i900C intraoral scanner and a Perfit Ovis zirconia mill, we design and fabricate crowns, inlays, and onlays in a single visit. No putty impressions, no temporary, no second appointment. After milling, the restoration is stained, glazed, sintered at high temperature, adjusted for fit, and polished before delivery.

Are digital impressions better than traditional impressions?

Digital scans are faster, more comfortable (no trays or impression material), and produce a more accurate model. They also let you see your teeth on screen in real time.

How long does a same-day crown appointment take?

Longer than a filling appointment and shorter than two separate visits. The tooth is prepared and scanned, the restoration is designed and milled while you wait, then finished by hand and seated. You leave with the final crown in place.

Why zirconia?

Zirconia is strong enough to handle molar chewing forces without the metal substructure older crowns required, and it can be shaded and glazed to match surrounding teeth. It also mills predictably, which is what makes same-appointment delivery possible.

What is the difference between a filling, an inlay, an onlay, and a crown?

They differ in how much of the tooth they replace. A filling restores a small cavity. An inlay sits within the chewing surface, an onlay extends over one or more cusps, and a crown covers the tooth entirely. Dr. Kary uses the most conservative option the tooth can support, since preserving your own tooth structure matters for the long term.

Will my crown match my other teeth?

Yes. Each restoration is shade-matched and finished by hand before it is seated. Dr. Kary has a background in drawing, painting, ceramics, and photography, and does this step himself rather than delegating it to an outside laboratory.

Do I need a temporary crown?

Accepted Answer

In most single-tooth cases, no. Because the final restoration is milled during your appointment, there is no waiting period to cover. Temporaries are still used in some situations, such as cases requiring healing time or work planned across multiple phases.

How long do zirconia crowns last?

Many last well over a decade, and often considerably longer. Longevity depends on your bite forces, hygiene, whether you grind your teeth, and the condition of the underlying tooth. If clenching or grinding is a factor, a night guard protects the investment.

Does insurance cover crowns?

Most dental PPO plans classify crowns as a major procedure and cover them at around 50%. Your specific coverage depends on your plan, and we submit claims on your behalf whether we are in-network or out-of-network. You receive a written estimate before treatment begins.

Can you replace an old crown or a failing filling the same day?

Usually, yes. Old restorations are removed, the tooth underneath is evaluated, and a new restoration is scanned, milled, and seated in the same visit. If decay beneath an old crown has compromised the tooth more than expected, Dr. Kary will explain what changes before continuing.
