Most patients benefit from visits every six months. Some need more frequent visits depending on gum health, active treatment, or risk factors. Dr. Andrew L. Kary sets a schedule based on your specific situation.
Yes. Call the office at (301) 301-3148. We reserve time in the schedule for urgent visits: broken teeth, severe pain, swelling, infection, and dental trauma.
We routinely see adolescents and teens. Children under 12 are seen on a case-by-case basis. For younger children who need a pediatric specialist, we are happy to recommend one.
Diagnostic imaging (digital X-rays and, when indicated, a cone-beam CT scan), a clinical exam of teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, airway, and oral cancer screening. Dr. Kary reviews findings with you on screen, explains what he recommends, what it costs, and what the alternatives are. No sales pitch. If your gums are healthy and you are due for a cleaning, that may happen at the same visit.
We are in-network with several major dental PPO plans, with additional carriers being added as credentialing completes. If your plan is not listed on our New Patients page, call the office and we will verify your benefits directly.
We see out-of-network patients and submit claims to your insurer on your behalf. Many patients receive partial reimbursement from their plan.
Most dental PPO plans cover preventive care (exams, cleanings, X-rays) at 80-100%, basic procedures (fillings, simple extractions) at 60-80%, and major procedures (crowns, implants, surgery) at 50%. Your specific coverage depends on your plan. We provide a written estimate before any treatment begins.
Yes. Kary Dental offers in-house membership plans for patients without dental insurance or those who prefer a simpler alternative. All plans cover routine preventive care, and some are all-inclusive. No deductibles, no waiting periods, no claim denials, no maximum benefit cap. Details are available on our New Patients page or by calling (301) 301-3148.
Cash, check, Zelle, and all major credit cards. For larger treatment plans, we offer financing through Cherry and Sunbit with flexible payment options. You can apply online or in our office.
Always. You receive a written estimate before any procedure. If your treatment plan involves multiple phases, we outline the cost of each phase.
Complete them online before your visit through our patient portal. If you prefer paper, arrive 15 minutes early.
Photo ID, dental insurance card (if applicable), medical insurance card (if being seen for sleep medicine), a list of current medications, and any recent dental records or X-rays.
Yes. Ask your previous office to send records (X-rays, treatment history) to us. Call (301) 301-3148 to coordinate the transfer. We can provide any necessary authorization forms.
You are not unusual. We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and in-office general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist. Sedation is available for any procedure, and we discuss your options before scheduling so there are no surprises. The office also has heated massage chairs for additional comfort during longer appointments.
We offer fresh-ground espresso, cappuccinos, lattes, sparkling water, and tea.
Yes. Using a Medit i900C intraoral scanner and a Perfit Ovis zirconia mill, we design and fabricate crowns, inlays, and onlays in a single visit. No putty impressions, no temporary, no second appointment. After milling, the restoration is stained, glazed, sintered at high temperature, adjusted for fit, and polished before delivery.
Digital scans are faster, more comfortable (no trays or impression material), and produce a more accurate model. They also let you see your teeth on screen in real time.
Implants are a long-term solution. The titanium post integrates with bone and, with proper hygiene and maintenance, can last decades. The restoration on top (crown, bridge, or prosthesis) may need replacement over time depending on wear.
Most patients with missing or failing teeth are candidates. Dr. Kary evaluates bone volume, anatomy, and nerve proximity using a DEXIS OP 3D EX cone-beam CT scan. If bone is insufficient, grafting procedures can often create a viable implant site.
It depends on the case. A single implant with adequate bone may take a few months from placement to final restoration. Cases involving bone grafting, sinus lifts, or full-arch reconstruction take longer. Dr. Kary provides a detailed timeline during your consultation.
Yes. Dr. Kary places implants, performs bone grafting, designs and 3D-prints surgical guides, and fabricates the final restoration in this office. He designs guides digitally and prints them on a RapidShape Pro 20. Provisionals are pre-printed and ready before the patient sits down.
A full-arch implant prosthesis supported by four to six implants per arch. It replaces all teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both, with a fixed (non-removable) restoration. We place the implants and fabricate the prosthesis in-house.
Yes, including complete bony impactions. Dr. Kary completed an oral surgery internship at Madigan Army Medical Center and was designated an Advanced Clinical Practice General Dentist (63A9F) by the Army. Sedation is available for all surgical procedures.
Wisdom teeth removal, surgical extractions, bone grafting (socket preservation, ridge augmentation, sinus lifts), soft tissue grafting, frenectomy (laser, labial, and lingual), management of oral infections, minor trauma, and oral pathology procedures.
We handle most care in-house, including surgery, implants, root canals, and sedation. When a case requires expertise beyond our scope, we refer to and help coordinate with a trusted specialist. Getting you the best care matters more to us than trying to do everything ourselves.
Three levels. Nitrous oxide (mild relaxation, you can drive home). Oral sedation (minimal sedation, you will need a ride). General anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist in our office (for longer procedures, complex surgery, or patients who need complete comfort). You do not need to go to a hospital or surgical center.
Yes, when administered by trained professionals with appropriate monitoring. Dr. Kary reviews your medical history and selects the safest option for your situation. For general anesthesia, a board-certified anesthesiologist manages the sedation independently.
Yes. Sedation allows longer appointments and multiple procedures in fewer visits, which is especially useful for patients with complex treatment needs.
Yes. Dr. Kary is a Qualified Dentist of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). For patients with obstructive sleep apnea, a custom oral appliance worn at night repositions the lower jaw to keep the airway open during sleep. This is a validated alternative for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP.
Yes. Oral appliance therapy requires a confirmed diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. Polysomnography (a sleep study) is the gold standard. If you already have a diagnosis, bring your records. If you do not, we coordinate with your physician or help you find one.
Yes. If you are referred by a physician, you return to that physician for ongoing sleep management. We handle the appliance: fabrication, titration, follow-up, and outcome documentation. We send treatment summaries and follow-up results back to your referring provider.
Some patients benefit from using an oral appliance alongside CPAP. This can allow a lower CPAP pressure setting, improving comfort and compliance. We manage the oral appliance side and coordinate with your sleep physician.
In many cases, yes. Oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea is a medical benefit, not dental. We handle medical billing, prior authorizations, and claims.
Yes. We take a conservative approach: diagnosis first using cone-beam CT imaging, then the least invasive treatment first. Options include custom occlusal splints, Botox for jaw muscle tension, physical therapy coordination, and (for select cases) arthrocentesis.
Botox reduces the intensity and frequency of jaw muscle tension, clenching, and chronic headaches. When muscle hyperactivity is a contributing factor, Botox can provide three to four months of relief per treatment.
Schedule a consultation. Dr. Kary evaluates your teeth, gums, and bite, discusses what you want to change, and shows you what is realistic. Options range from whitening and bonding to veneers and full smile redesigns.
Non-invasive and minimally invasive options including porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, teeth whitening, clear aligners, esthetic crown lengthening, and smile design.
Ten to fifteen years or longer with proper care and regular dental visits. Porcelain is durable and resistant to staining.
Yes. Professional whitening under dental supervision is safe and more effective than over-the-counter products. Treatment is customized to protect enamel and gum tissue.
DEXIS OP 3D EX cone-beam CT scanner for 3D imaging. Medit i900C intraoral scanner for digital impressions. Perfit Ovis zirconia mill for same-day restorations. RapidShape Pro 20 3D printer for surgical guides, models, provisionals, and appliances. DTX Studio, Medit Design, and Blue Sky Plan software for implant planning and surgical guide design. Dental lasers for soft tissue procedures. Digital X-rays (90% less radiation than film). Intraoral cameras.
Yes. Surgical guides, diagnostic models, provisional restorations, and dental appliances are printed in-house on a RapidShape Pro 20. For implant cases, Dr. Kary designs the surgical guide digitally and prints it before the procedure, along with a pre-printed provisional restoration.
We have no relationship with the Align Corporation, the company behind Invisalign. Invisalign is a brand name, not a unique technology. Multiple manufacturers produce clear aligners with equivalent materials and results. We choose the system that fits your case best, not the one a corporate partner pays us to use.
A series of custom-made, removable trays gradually move your teeth into position. Treatment begins with a digital scan (no impressions) and a plan you can review before committing. No brackets, no wires.
Yes. We screen for gum disease at every exam and treat it in-house: scaling and root planing, laser-assisted periodontal treatment, ongoing maintenance, soft tissue grafting for recession, and functional crown lengthening.
Yes, on all teeth including molars. Modern techniques, magnification, ultrasonic instruments, and bioceramic sealing materials make the procedure more precise and more comfortable than most patients expect.
If the tooth can be saved, a root canal is almost always preferable to extraction. It preserves bone, maintains your bite, and avoids the cost and complexity of replacing the tooth later. Dr. Kary will tell you honestly when a tooth can and cannot be saved.
Yes. We provide complete dentures, partial dentures, implant-supported overdentures, and fixed implant prostheses (All-on-X). For patients who currently wear dentures, implant-supported options can eliminate the need for adhesives and improve chewing function.
A phased treatment plan for patients who need work across most or all of their teeth. This may combine implants, crowns, bone grafting, extractions, and prosthetics. Dr. Kary plans these cases using cone-beam CT imaging, digital scans, and 3D models. Sedation is available for longer appointments.
Yes. Call (301) 301-3148 or book through our patient portal. First visits take 60 to 90 minutes.
No. Kary Dental is 100% independently owned and operated by Dr. Kary. No outside investors, no corporate affiliations, no production quotas. Clinical recommendations come from the dentist treating you.
Independence, scope, and honesty. The practice has no outside investors and no production quotas. Dr. Kary handles procedures that most general offices refer out (surgical extractions, implants, bone grafting, sedation, sleep medicine) and does it with equipment typically found in specialist offices. When something is not necessary, he will tell you. When something is going to be uncomfortable, he will tell you that too.
Current openings are listed on our Careers page. Use the contact form there to submit your resume and a short note.
